As of July 1, 2025, Baja California Sur has introduced a mandatory tourist tax of 470 MXN (about $25 USD) per person for non-resident visitors staying longer than 24 hours in destinations like Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, and Mulegé.
Here's what to know about Mexico's new $25 tourist tax:
What You Pay & When

Who pays: All international tourists staying over 24 hours (residents exempt).
How to pay: Online before or during travel via the official Embrace IT portal (managed by Tourist Tax México in partnership with Travelkore). You’ll receive a QR code to present on arrival at airports or highway checkpoints.
Why it matters: Paying online ahead of time avoids delays at entry points.
The tax applies to all international visitors arriving by land or air at Los Cabos (SJD), Cabo San Lucas (CSL), La Paz (LAP) and Loreto (LTO) airports.
What the Revenue Supports
The funds will be reinvested into local communities through the Embrace IT initiative, which funds:
Public safety and emergency response
Infrastructure—roads, community facilities, tourism support
Environmental and sustainability efforts
Cultural, educational, and sports programs
Why It Matters for Anglers and Charter Guests

Seamless Arrival – Avoid delays by pre-paying and arriving with your QR code in hand.
Enhanced Local Services – Improved infrastructure and safety mean better access to marinas, roads, and public amenities.
Support for Conservation – Contributions help preserve the marine ecosystems and coastal environments anglers love.

The new measure is being implemented in partnership with Tourist Tax México, S.A. de C.V. (TTMX), using Travelkore’s SaaS technology to streamline the payment process.
