Overall, Cabo fishing has been excellent!  We're still seeing some inclement weather some days as weather systems move north/northwest.  Fortunately, there hasn't been too many disruptions as a result yet, aside from some rainy days.

We are still seeing and catching some big marlin, both blues and blacks.  Sailfish continue to be a hot bite and we're getting our guests on them regularly.  The dorado bite continues to be moderate, but they are out there and we're boating them.  We do expect to see an uptick in the dorado numbers and size any time now.  There are still some scattered wahoo and tuna are around some days and gone just as quickly.  One of our guests managed to hit an IGFA "Fantasy Slam" with five different species caught on charter with us.

Fishing has been good...that is when we're able to fish in light of the tropical depressions that have been moving in over the past several weeks.  We've seen an uptick in blue marlin and black marlin activity with one of our guests on one of the pangas hooking up one of each last week with the black being around 650 pounds.  We've boated some nice size dorado, which is a nice turn, since they have been relatively scarce in July and August.  There are plenty of school size yellowfin tuna around that have made for some fun and fast paced fishing for our guests.

  • Current ocean temperature near Cabo San Lucas: 87-88°F.

Since our last Cabo fishing report, we have continued to see a steady dorado bite, which is great.  We are also still catching an unusually high number of sailfish as has been the case for several weeks now.  Yellowfin tuna continue to be abundant with our boats catching limits of them in the 10-30 pound range.  The action on them is fast and furious when we do hit schools with up to five hookups at a time.  Striped marlin are still very active and we are catching them daily within close range of the marina.  Also, on July 24, we had guests elect to do an afternoon half day charter, and they achieved a "super grand slam" in sportfishing, defined by the IGFA (International Game Fish Association) as four different species caught while fishing.  The species were: sailfish, marlin, yellowfin tuna and dorado.  It was a great achievement for our guests and we appreciate being their Cabo fishing charter of choice.  Ready to go after marlin, dorado or yellowfin?  Book your Cabo fishing charter today with Top Anglers and fish with the pros.

Not only have the dorado arrived, we are boating some big trophies!  This past week saw some of the best and biigest dorado action we have seen so far this year.  Our charter guests have also been doing very well on Pacific sailfish. The striped marlin action continues to be great with many of our boats hooking up several of them.  Rounding out the offshore action...blue marlin!  Not only are we catching blue marlin, but the bite has been consistently good for them with most weighing in around the 200-300 lb. range.  Inshore action for roosters continues to be on par for this time of year and there are still some sierra hanging around inshore.

Overall, fishing in Cabo has been quite good!  We have boated a nice variety of species including sailfish, yellowfin tuna, striped marlin roosterfish and sierra.  A lot of people have been chartering super pangas lately, but as the saying goes, it isn't always the size or newness of the boat the matters!  This is probably due to a lot of cruise ship passengers booking with us and have limited time so are opting for our half-day charters.  As a side note, did you know that we are literally 20 or so yards from the cruise ship terminal where the tenders bring passengers ashore?  This makes it easy for those visiting Cabo via cruise ship to get in some fishing.  The pangas have been catching both inshore and offshore species and have been able to venture out further with the wind and seas settling back down finally.  Our offshore report is pretty much the same.  We are finding schools of yellowfin that are eager to bite, along with striped marlin primarily.  Dorado are still very scattered, although we are hearing reports of more of them in La Paz area, so we may start to finally see an uptick in the dorado bite. Our catch of the week is this nice trophy rooster boated today.  It's good to see some roosters with some size to them starting to show.

The port has been closed for the past several days as Hurricane Flossie kicked up the seas some, but fortunately, as of this report, things should be back to normal this afternoon.  The yellowfin tuna has turned back on and we are easily boating them in the double digits as the large schools are around.  All that action has had charter guests pretty pumped after a bit of a slowdown about two weeks ago.  We are also seeing some really nice size roosters biting now on our inshore charters.  Dorado are still very scarce with hardly any boats in the entire Cabo sportfishing fleet landing any.  The hot wahoo bite has pretty well slowed back down to what we would call a normal pace and striped marlin fishing continues to be good.  Of note, on Sunday, June 29, this 762.5 lb. black marlin was landed by a 21 year old angler from San Clemente, which was the talk of the town.  You can read about this incredible trophy catch on our sportfishing blog here.

June 22,  2025

Following a great yellowfin tuna bite, things have slowed down some with the exception of roosterfish and marlin, both of which continue to be biting.  Overall, temperatures have remained on the cool side, with the water unusually cool for this time of year, in addition to some high chlorophyl levels in a very large area covering both the Pacific and Sea of Cortez.  We are getting fish, but having to work for them at present.

June 15,  2025

After Alvin, things have mostly returned to normal.  Yellowfin tuna have been abundant with most of our boats limiting out within an hour or two.  It hasn't been uncommon for all 5-7 fishing rods out on the spread to be going off at the same time as they're schooled up on the surface.  After some fast paced tuna action, we're finding a good number of striped marlin and boating one to three per boat for our charter guests.  The wahoo bite seems to be slowing a bit and dorado are still scattered here and there so we are having to work for the ones we are getting.  Inshore, roosterfish action continues to be great with mid size roosters on the bite.

May 30,  2025

With the exception of Topical Storm Alvin stirring things up these past couple of days, Cabo San Lucas fishing just continues to get better and better.  This past week the incredible wahoo bite continued with our charters boating several nice sized ones.  Tuna have also continued to be plentiful and striped marlin of course are being caught by our charter guests.  Inshore, the roosterfish bite has remained consistently good and we are starting to see some that are larger than several weeks ago.  As far as Tropical Storm Alvin goes, its fizzling our pretty quickly and is expected to bring some typical wind and rain today (Saturday) and we did have charter boats out yesterday.  The port is closed today so no charters, and is expected to be closed tomorrow, Sunday, as well.  Until then, tight lines and we will hook you up with a fresh report next week!

striped marlin fishing has been excellent in Cabo

May 23, 2025

Cabo fishing continues to be excellent!  For the past week, our charters caught an exceptional mix of marlin, tuna, wahoo, dorado and roosterfish.  One large party on a half-day charter on one of our 45 foot boats (11 people!) all got tuna, plus a few dorado to go along with them!  The bite is pretty well wide open and this is a great time of year to consider booking a full-day charter and doing and inshore and offshore combination, to target roosterfish, jacks and other inshore species in the morning for an hour or two, and then head offshore for the bigger pelagics.  The wahoo are still a really nice size and its been a great bite overall for them this past month or so.  Dorado caught on charter seem to be getting bigger in size, which is a good sign and they are likely being drawn in more by the warming sea temperatures.  We continue to run some new tackle prototypes that are really working well as evidenced by this past weeks high numbers of catches and we have some more of these "special weapons" coming and up our sleeve.  Our Cabo fishing charters run seven days per week and we are ready to host you on your next Cabo fishing trip!

May 15, 2025

This past week, we continued to hook up striped marlin, wahoo and tuna weighting 10-20 pounds each.  Cabo inshore fishing has cooled off a bit, which is somewhat out of the ordinary for this time of year, considering we are usually what is considered prime rooster fishing season for Cabo.  The off and on wind has likely had some effect on the inshore bite, but we anticipate seeing the wind die down overall to more consistent non and less windy days here very soon.

May 7, 2025

After some windy days off and on the past few weeks, offshore fishing has quickly began heating up and we're boating multiple species including wahoo, marlin, dorado and tuna with many of half day boats producing just fine as the fish are in close at present.  Some of the tackle prototypes that we were given to test are proving to be very effective against several species and this trophy tuna was caught by one of our guests today on a prototype.  There is ongoing opportunity for inshore fishing as well with roosters, jacks and sierra in the mix.

massive yellowfin tuna caught by a charter guest in Cabo San Lucas

April 15, 2025

Inshore fishing continues to be where most of the action is, as unusually cooler water remains on the Pacific side to the north of Cabo San Lucas.  We've been catching some really nice size Sierra (some of the biggest we've seen) along with jacks, and some roosters.  We are boating some marlin and are traveling south and southeast, to the warmer blue water on the Sea of Cortez side, to find them.  Dorado continue to be elusive and the occasional wahoo can still be caught.

April 9, 2025

Inshore fishing has been on fire over the course of the last 7-10 days with roosterfish being plentiful, along with jacks.  On 4-8-25, one of our inshore boats caught and released thirty roosterfish and six jacks on our half day charter!  The marlin bite has been steady, but we are having to work a bit for them with most of the offshore action happening to the south, on the Sea of Cortez side, where the blue water and warmer water temperatures are.  Occasional wahoo can also be found, and dorado are still remaining pretty elusive as of right now.  Yellowfin are out there, however they are remaining very far offshore so very few boats out of the entire Cabo fishing fleet are making the run to them.  I'll be testing out some new spinning reels, topwater plugs and stick baits this next week and hope to see some good results.
